Reducing Stress, Developing A Can Do Attitude.

Image
Quite often we think of back pain as a physical problem, and it is,  but there are also many emotional and mental effects of being in pain and having your body hurting.  It is incredibly difficult to take action when in the throes of feeling down so small steps and be kind to yourself.  I have looked into how to reduce stress through stress relief music and CDs, complementary therapies, and other techniques to help. Some will work for you, some won't, we are all different in our responses and what we need.  We have a focus on stress and back pain but these techniques may be helpful to you if you are under any kind of stress. Being stressed and feeling down can take its toll on so many areas of your life. I know it, I have been there and its awful. I hope that you find something in this series helpful to you. Gentle hugs :) Develop A "Can Do" Attitude To Life When you are dealing with back pain or any pain, it is stressful and debilitating physically an...

When Back Pain Gets You Down...

Back and sciatic pain can sometimes get you down, I know.  Although my back is soooo much better these days I do still vividly recall the very difficult times I experienced.... I have been there and I totally understand... I find that on an emotional level this quote sometimes helped me to gain perspective and the strength to pick myself up and go forward, seek help or just know that I can deal with it. "Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life, and when it comes, hold your head high, look it squarely in the eye and say, " I will be bigger than you . You cannot defeat me" Then repeat to yourself the most comforting words of all, "This too shall pass" Ann Landers American advice columist Gentle Hugs Follow Jasmine Ann Raintree's board Back And Sciatic Pain Strategies. on Pinterest.

Back Pain Thought For The Day

Never Give Up!

Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome. Worthwhile bearing in mind when thinking of what may help with our back issues. Its easy to become disheartened and disillusioned if we have tried so many treatments and they do not work or do not work for long ( I was there believe me!) but it is so important that we keep looking for our solution.   Sometimes a gem may be missed because we cannot be sure or gave up a bit too soon.  Follow Jasmine Ann Raintree's board Back And Sciatic Pain Strategies. on Pinterest.

Happy Holidays!

HI all, Wishing you a wonderful time over the holidays. I wish you a peaceful and happy time and that the New Year brings us all joy, peace and happiness. I am sorry for my lack of posts of late but I had only just got over my illness when my mum fell serious ill and was in hospital for quite a while. She is out now and doing better but it was a very hectic and worrying time. We look forward to the New year for a time of greater happiness and for all those coping with pain you are amazing and have greater resources within you than you know. Focus on the things you CAN DO and do not beat yourself up about the rest. Take control of your back pain, NEVER give up and  keep seeking your solution. My experience is I needed to ask the right questions, get to the root cause, get educated and take control. I wish you all the love, joy and happiness you so deserve Hugs

Slow steps to recovery...

I have experienced a bit of poor health of late, I seem to be taking a lot longer to get back to full health than i think i should. Its not back pain but something else I wont bore  you with,  and am in thoughtful mode so  excuse this rather more rambly post than usual. I recently realised I had forgotten about some of the lessons I learnt when I had back and sciatic pain.  I have been feeling that I should get better quickly and had forgotten that the body needs time to heal. Society places a lot of pressure on us to get better quickly and of course we want to get better and out of pain as fast as possible too...but sometimes nature has its own agenda. A positive attitude This is also very important and taking each day at a time. We all get times we are down, even depressed but that does not get us anywhere. Taking positive action and doing and thinking things that are good for us is the way forward to coping with health issues. There are many solutions out there ...

An Open Letter To Those Without Invisible Disability Or Chronic Illness

Hi there, At last I found this wonderful letter to share with you; "An Open Letter To Those Without Invisible Disability Or Chronic Illness " I had found it some time ago and then lost it again. Now I have linked here so I won't lose it again! It is all about understanding people who have an illness or disability that is not necessarily obvious. I think that back and sciatic pain can come under that banner heading.  I know from my own experience while some people were understanding of my sciatic and back pain and the effects it had on me-physically and emotionally; others were very dismissive of "back pain" as being anything much to be concerned about... I wish I could have given those people this letter... From the site "Not Done Living " :- Having an invisible disability (ID) and/or invisible chronic illness (ICI) means that many things change. Just because you can’t see the changes doesn’t mean they aren’t real. Most people don’t und...

Ready For A Laugh To Chase The Blues Away?

Image
Hi all! Well its late January and not my fave time of year for many reasons. Where I live it is dark early- It is freezing cold just now or raining and I long for the odd sunny day we get. Lately I am yearning for signs of Spring. Even though I rarely get back or sciatic pain now, my back always gives me a little jip this time of year due to the cold. I tense up my muscles in the cold and that always seems to affect my back. If I use a heat pad I find it helps. I also need to step up my lose the back pain exercises again, they sort me out very quickly but I have really let my back care go over the last few months due to family illness which meant I have been under some stress and had little time lately for looking after me and my back. Anyway...through my experiences, I do now believe that part of back pain is physical and part of it is mental or emotional and I am sure now that if I get down or sick or stressed that I get some twinges. Time for a bit of cheering up! Adults ...

Happy New Year!

Image
Wishing each and every one of you a Great New Year Ahead! My wish to you is for a New year filled with the fulfilment of wishes you wish for yourself. My wish to you is that this is the year you discover relief from your back and sciatic pain, you find what works for you and apply it consistently. My wish is that you are happy and at peace with yourself, the world and everyone in it. Here are just a few quotes I find to be inspiring to me. "With all its sham ,drudgery and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world." "Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome." "When solving problems, dig at the roots instead of just hacking at the leaves." "Happiness is like a butterfly; the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder..." "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not ...

I Choose Love...

Image
Hi to my friends, I have a beautiful video for you today that sends a shiver up my spine every time I watch it. All about Love and Compassion in our world. It is covering wider issues but made me think about how Love and Compassion affect us when we are coping with back and sciatic pain. With regard to our own healing, I do believe that Love and Compassion for ourselves is very important. I used to hate and fear my back for the pain it caused me and I was afraid of what was happening to me....I had to learn to love it again to take the necessary steps to care.... Love yourself just as you are then you will be able to help yourself better to heal. We all know it is also important to love and show compassion to each other especially through difficult times. I know that it was the unfailing love, support and faith in me of my wonderful husband, the caring and support I received from other back pain sufferers and recoverers, one very special friend and Steve Hefferon from Lose the Back...

Feel Great!! Make a "Not to do List"

Image
Hi there! You have to sometimes give yourself permission to r-e-l-a-x..... Sometimes we all need to take a little "time out". I tend to run around a lot then need some time and space to just "be" and gather myself...then I find I am more productive and effective. I also need to be careful not to get too stressed as that invariably starts that niggle in my back indicating to me that I am overdoing it. My back now seems to be a barometer for me not to overdo it!! I am also a big one for making lists of things to do and I do that at work and at home. Presently I have huge to do lists for both!! When I get a bit overwhelmed I find my lists keep me knowing what is needing to be done. However, I think they also put some pressure on as they sit there until ticked off. If you have back and sciatic pain it may well take you longer to achieve the things you need or want to do, simply because you are dealing with pain, tiredness, lack of mobility....etc Then ...

Goldie and Me...

Image
It is the anniversary of the passing of our gorgeous, big hearted, golden hearted golden retriever boy. We shared so much in the short ten and a half years we lived our lives with him. I can completely vouch for the saying " Its a Goldens World, we just live in it" From the second he walked in the door our lives changed...for the better. I was never happier than when we were a little family with our Golden boy. Beautiful walks, silly antics, laughing until our sides ached, never ending hoovering, the love of a wet dog....the gracious paw offered to make it all better when I was feeling sad... Though we had our fair share of trials during this time, some of them very harsh, he helped us during those times too in ways only he could. FUN was his word! Well that and FOOD :) I wrote a memorial tribute to our "little man in a golden suit" if you would like to meet our golden boy. Paws In The Sand    Taking some time out for reflection....

Just Don't Quit!

Image
I have known about this poem for many years but forgotten about it until I found it on this website The Dont Quit Poem. I think it is very apt for anyone dealing with back and sciatic pain and all the things we have to go through. I wish I knew who wrote it but from what I can find it is anon.   It is important to never give up looking for your solution and to "keep on keeping on" as my Auntie used to say... I was so close to giving up and resigning myself to a life of limited mobility. Everyone else(apart from my husband) had pretty much given up on me ever getting better.   Even professionals told me it was accept surgery with a long recuperation and no guarantees or learn to live with it.   So after a period of total inaction I decided to get grateful for what I did have and in the game again and with a much better, clearer and more proactive mental attitude, determined to find another way.... So I hope this is a little bit of inspiration for you if you are go...

Inspirational Quotes...Facing Challenges.

Image
Every now and again I like to read inspirational quotes and poetry to give me a lift and motivation, or just to realise that someone else has been there before... I love these quotes which I think can apply themselves to if you are coping with back pain and sciatica. Its all about having the courage, determination and hope to keep on going , keep on searching and trying and wanting to beat this thing. I know a few quotes wont make back pain disappear but if they help a little then thats good. If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for all humanity, it would be this:  Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life, and when it comes, hold your head high. Look it squarely in the eye, and say,  "I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me. Ann Landers I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much.
