If You Were Santa How Would You Carry The Sack?

Image
I must be starting to get in the mood for Christmas with this title! However it does have a serious note. How often do we carry around large or heavy items?  Especially at this time of year when we are likely to do more shopping for food and presents, we seem to end up carrying more, which if you have an existing back issue is not good.   Then when you think of handbags, some of which are very large and often full. They too can be a strain on our backs and shoulders if they are too heavy and unbalanced.    The weekly shopping can be difficult if you have a bad back. Whether you use the supermarket  bags or reusable canvas or fabric bags that are larger , once they are full up they are often very heavy.  Then there are the days when we go out shopping for gifts and believe me it mounts up doesn't it and we end up lugging around a lot of items that weigh a lot.    If you carry one heavy bag then all the weight is on one side and c...

Back Pain. All In The Mind?

Image
I have read that back pain can cause depression and stress and depression and stress can cause back pain. I do feel stress has a part to play but how much? Certainly I wasn't depressed before I got back and sciatic pain but I did feel stressed.... I did get very "down" and felt hopeless when I was in a lot of pain and nothing seemed to be working.... It wasn't until I decided I just could not go on like that in pain , hardly mobile and completely not living life the way I wanted to -I really hit rock bottom. I had thought that "they" would cure me and was disillusioned and felt abandoned when "they " couldn't. I managed to get positive again and I started researching things for myself instead of relying on others to cure me. I learnt more about my condition. I found the Lose the back pain website and when the Lose The Back Pain system I ordered started to work and I got help support and advice from them and the other people on the s...

Sleep like a Baby...

A few posts ago i listed a whole range of sleep tips, to help you get to sleep and stay asleep. Now all those sleep tips may work great for you , however you may find it is not enough and if you need a little more help getting and staying asleep and you like the sound of a natural sleep aid . After months of poor sleep night after night when I had back pain and sciatica I was very tempted by sleeping pills but I also knew about the potential risks and I really didn't want to go there so I just did what I could to help myself. Over time I suffered badly through lack of sleep and got very sick with a lowered immune system and let me tell you it was no fun and took me a long time to get over..... HOW I wish I had known about this !! A sleep aid that uses natural ingredients. I could really have used this help. It's important to note that not all natural sleep aids are created equally. What you don't want is a lot of filler and a tiny amount of active ingred...

I really appreciate my travels now as i could not travel at all for about a year when i had severe back pain and sciatica symptoms. Well that is a bit of an understatement...for me travelling or going on holiday was a very distant dream ,for a long time i couldn't cope with more than a 30 minute car journey from my home! More on back pain ,sciatica and travelling on my website www.mypetback.com but a few tips to share with you now i hope you find useful. We all need a break, and if you have back pain, pinched sciatic nerve symptoms, backache and stress you probably need one more than most. Holidays are great, a time to relax, be with the family, play with the kids, explore, romance your loved one…or are they? If you have back problems you may be thinking it is easier to stay at home. Your back and your garden.

Just a few hints and tips i picked up about gardening if you have a bad back i hope might be useful.  If you love your garden as much as I do and you have backache, pinched sciatic nerve symptoms or one of the many back pain issues you may be wondering if you can ever garden again. Gardening can be hard on the back and I thought I would have to give it up forever. However I discovered that is not necessarily the case… Gardening is a very physical activity but there are lots of things you can do to make it easier. Even if you really cannot do the physical work you can still take a very active part in your garden. Also gardening is a great motivator, and wonderful back care inspiration. If you want to do your garden and you are dealing with or recovering from, back aches and pains you are much more likely to keep up with any back care stretches and exercises and be diligent about looking after your back. First do check with your...
