Ease Back Pain And Reduce Stress With Water Therapy.

Image
Stress Reduction With Water Therapy.     Water therapy can be great to help with back issues and stress.   Regular daily exercises can be a great stress reducer and improve your overall mood. If you are able to exercise without it exacerbating your pain or symptoms or hindering your condition then your mood and emotions will benefit as well. The problem for many people with back pain and sciatica symptoms is that sometimes the pain is too much to do regular exercise and so the stress builds up. Before I got back pain I was used to walking miles each day with my dog and also doing a lot of gardening which was both great physical exercise for me and necessary as my job is very sedentary. However, when I was in the worst throes of back pain I couldn't even walk across a room without pain. However, if you first get clearance from a healthcare professional water therapy can be a great exercise for back pain sufferers. It is gentle, supportive of your body, no...

Do You Need Back Surgery?

Discovered this article in Web MD that is a must read especially if you are considering backpain surgery. Surgery for Back Pain and Sciatica symptoms has come on a long way but it still can be major surgery. My neurosurgeon told me they do less back surgeries now than they used to, preferring people wherever possible to try non invasive or less invasive methods first. Do discuss all back surgery options carefully with your surgeon and healthcare providers to ensure if it is indeed a good choice for you and your situation. Be aware of the Red Flags of back pain as well (things you must see a healthcare provider about urgently) so you can discuss any of them with your healthcare provider.   Click here to read more on that on post "Red Flags and Back Pain. Scoliosis-What Is It?

Scoliosis-What Is It? Article Courtesy of The Healthy Back Institute. Scoliosis is a lateral, or sideways, curvature of the spine, which in its normal state should be a straight vertical line when viewed from the front or back. Viewed from the side, a normal spine curves slightly backward to produce a mild degree of roundness in the upper back area and slightly inward curve in the lower back. When a person with scoliosis is viewed from the front or back, the spine appears to be curved to either side of its normal vertical line. What causes it? There are numerous causes and types of scoliosis. Neuromuscular scoliosis is caused by abnormal muscles or nerves. This is often seen in people with spina bifida or cerebral palsy, or in those with a number of conditions that include or lead to paralysis. Congenital scoliosis occurs as a result of a bone abnormality that is present at birth. Degenerative scoliosis is bone collapse due to an injury or illness, previous major back sur...

BMJ Spinal Surgery Versus Physical Rehab Study, Back Pain.

Let me know if you have any views.... If you are considering or have been advised to have back surgery, you may like to consider asking some of these questions as well. What is the exact diagnosis? What assessments will you do and what will the assessments tell you about my condition? Is it essential/urgent I have back surgery now? If yes why? If it is not urgent/essential I have surgery now can I try other treatments first then come back? What is the specific surgery you are proposing? How will this help me? What is the prognosis if i do not have surgery? Do I need any other tests? If so which ones? What will they tell you? Is th...

Considering Back Surgery? Questions to ask...

Well i have had my minor surgery and while it wasn't as straightforward as we hoped, it is over with now and i am having a few weeks to recover. It did get me to thinking though that you really need to know what you are going into with any type of surgery.   This recent surgery i had was not for my back (it was for something else entirely non related) but I am glad i did my research and was prepared before i went in.  I think it is important to know what you might expect during the operation and in recovery. Here I have tried to list questions you might want to ask if you are considering back surgery... To undergo back surgery is a serious decision and not to be undertaken lightly. You need to be certain it is the correct and necessary choice for you. For some people it will be necessary and beneficial and their circumstances will dictate that they require it.  However, unless there are circumstances which make back surgery urgent and essential it is always ...
