Memory Foam Lumbar Support For Your Back

Ahhh i love memory foam. Ever since we got our memory foam mattress i have been a fan of memory foam. The only thing is you cant take your mattress with you everywhere!

Then i found a memory foam lumbar support, this was great as i could take it everywhere and it makes any seating more comfortable. As i often have to travel around at work and sitting in all different chairs this helps me to remain comfortable.

I have not yet found a car which is designed to be good for your back position but this helps to convert seats into something better for your back. As i have degenerative disc disease and 2 lumbar prolapsed discs i know i need to care properley for my back. However, I even find people who have never had back pain trying out my memory foam cushion and liking it :}

Ideal for  portable back support at work and when travelling. Makes any seating more comfortable for your back. One of these goes everywhere with me. Its even "borrowed" by hubby!

Heat Wraps for Back Pain Relief.

I just thought it might be useful to you for me to highlight a few things which helped me along the road of recovering from back pain and sciatica.

These products helped me to get some relief while i was working on my issues and made the days more bearable...

Heat Wraps are Fantastic, portable and discreet.

I used these type of wraps frequently at work to ease back pain and give muscle relaxation. They give a gentle radiating heat which i found very soothing and did help to alleviate the pain.

 I do not think i would have got through sitting in the meetings i had to if i had not had these. I also use during  or after gardening or especially when sitting for long periods and i always take these with me when travelling in case my back decides it doesn't like the stress i am putting on it.

So while they wont cure the sort of back pain i had they did help me a lot and even today i find it reassuring that if i put too much stress on my back they help to warm the muscles and give me quick relief.

There are a variety of heating pads with some examples below and it is best to see which type would suit you best. You need to also check details for sizing.

Red Flags and Back Pain

RED FLAGS and back pain...when it is essential you are checked out by a medical practitioner. Inspirational words....Be gentle with yourself....

Garden scene with flowers

Forgive me this indulgence but this is one of my favourite poems and some of the words may have some relevance to those of us who have suffered or are suffering from back pain. It is well known i just wanted to have it here....

Max Ehrmann
Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Sleep like a Baby...

A few posts ago i listed a whole range of sleep tips, to help you get to sleep and stay asleep. Now all those sleep tips may work great for you , however you may find it is not enough and if you need a little more help getting and staying asleep and you like the sound of a natural sleep aid.

After months of poor sleep night after night when I had back pain and sciatica I was very tempted by sleeping pills but I also knew about the potential risks and I really didn't want to go there so I just did what I could to help myself. Over time I suffered badly through lack of sleep and got very sick with a lowered immune system and let me tell you it was no fun and took me a long time to get over.....

HOW I wish I had known about this !! A sleep aid that uses natural ingredients. I could really have used this help.
It's important to note that not all natural sleep aids are created equally. What you don't want is a lot of filler and a tiny amount of active ingredients for your hard earned cash.

So finding a natural sleep aid that actually works is quite a challenge. So many people with back pain and sciatica have a dreadful time with poor sleep the guys at the Healthy back Institute have been looking for a good product to help their customers specifically with sleeping for quite a while. However to quote them;

"There was so much junk out there that finally we just gave up!"

"It's true; we were so disappointed with the results from all the sleep aids we tested that we decided to create our own formula."
Here's what they say.....
The Most Powerful, Natural Sleep Aid...

With help from some of the worlds leading experts in natural medicine, The healthy Back Institute has created a natural sleep aid that includes the most effective combination of sleep aid ingredients.

It's called SleepzymeTM and here's why it works so well·

First, unlike most natural sleep aids that only have one or two ingredients that help to improve sleep, our formula includes seven!
But more importantly, Sleepzyme includes a special blend of enzymes that are designed specifically to breakdown the ingredients so your body can utilize more of them and faster.
And, each of the ingredients in this formula have been proven to be safe and effective at improving sleep. In fact, people throughout the world have been using them for thousands of years.
But our research has found that together they work synergistically to provide even better results. And unlike prescription and over-the-counter sleep aids, Sleepzyme works without the dangerous and harmful side effects and is NOT addictive.

BENEFITS TO YOU

  • No more sleeping pills
  • Non addictive
  • No harmful side effects.
  • Better nights sleep
  • All natural ingredients.
  • Free bottle!

Considering Back Surgery? Questions to ask...

Well i have had my minor surgery and while it wasn't as straightforward as we hoped, it is over with now and i am having a few weeks to recover. It did get me to thinking though that you really need to know what you are going into with any type of surgery.

 This recent surgery i had was not for my back (it was for something else entirely non related) but I am glad i did my research and was prepared before i went in.

 I think it is important to know what you might expect during the operation and in recovery. Here I have tried to list questions you might want to ask if you are considering back surgery...

To undergo back surgery is a serious decision and not to be undertaken lightly. You need to be certain it is the correct and necessary choice for you. For some people it will be necessary and beneficial and their circumstances will dictate that they require it.

However, unless there are circumstances which make back surgery urgent and essential it is always worthwhile talking through the pros and cons of having it with your health care providers and surgeon and if possible considering trying less invasive alternatives first like lose the back pain system excellent back pain relief system.

These are some questions i asked when i was referred to a neurosurgeon to consider having back surgery. There may well be many more you can think of but just a starting point.

I don't know about you but my mind goes blank when i am in a surgeons office so i found it best to write down all my questions first then i can just read them.

My neurosurgeon said he liked it when people came in prepared as he then knew that concerns were addressed.

QUESTIONS TO ASK....

What is the exact diagnosis?

What assessments will you do and what will the assessments tell you about my condition?

Is it essential/urgent I have back surgery now? If yes why?

If it is not urgent/essential I have surgery now can I try other treatments first then come back?

What is the specific surgery you are proposing? How will this help me?

What is the prognosis if i do not have surgery?

Do I need any other tests? If so which ones? What will they tell you?

Is there a waiting list for surgery? If so how long?

What happens if the surgery doesn't work?

Could I be worse off/more pain after the surgery?

What are the risks?

Do these risks carry short term or long term consequences?

How long will I be in recovery after the back surgery?

Will I need to do any maintenance? If so what?

How many appointments will I need? How frequently?

What exactly will this treatment do for me?

What would you consider a successful outcome from this surgery for me?

Will it cost me anything?

How often do you /this hospital perform this back surgery?

The bottom line is to be as informed as possible before you make a decision.

Discuss any considerations for Back Surgery carefully with your healthcare provider and surgeon.

If at all possible consider alternative treatments first. Click here to check out the lose the back pain system which was the main thing to help me

To your healthy back :)

When Life Gives You Lemons...

MAKE LEMONADE!!

I was talking with a very good friend of mine the other day and essentially moaning a little bit about a few things when she said that to me.

It got me to thinking that whatever is going on in life there are usually some things to be happy about or to be grateful for.

I know when i had severe back pain and sciatica it was sometimes very difficult to keep positive and smiling and i certainly did not always acheive that, but i could usually think of something to be grateful for. So i started to think what i was grateful for about this situation -which is that i have to go for a little operation .( no its not related to back pain, something else entirely)

So here are 5 things on my list. I have only included 5 because when i got going i had several sheets of A4 paper and i really dont want to bore you too much :}

1. I have a very skilled surgeon and when it is over i have my wonderful husband who will be with me at home to take care of me.
2. I have a lovely home to recuperate in.
3. I have a truly wonderful friend ( in the woman i mentioned above)who is very supportive and makes a lot of sense to me.
4. I have a lovely garden which the birds love to visit all the time and i will get to enjoy their singing all this week once i get home.
5. I love that it is Springtime and all the blossoms are out and it is warm and sunny.

oh and i love blogging! Yeah i know thats 6 but indulge me...

Well i also found that the more i thought about what i was grateful about the less worried i was about was what going to happen.

So i just wanted to tell you that i will not be blogging for just a few days while i have and get over the inital recovery from the op But as the guy said "I'll Be Back!"

OK so see you soon and wishing you a great week ahead :}

And if you would like to share anything you are grateful for or happy about even though you are experiencing back pain and/or sciatica it would be great to hear :}
