Ready For A Laugh To Chase The Blues Away?

Image
Hi all! Well its late January and not my fave time of year for many reasons. Where I live it is dark early- It is freezing cold just now or raining and I long for the odd sunny day we get. Lately I am yearning for signs of Spring. Even though I rarely get back or sciatic pain now, my back always gives me a little jip this time of year due to the cold. I tense up my muscles in the cold and that always seems to affect my back. If I use a heat pad I find it helps. I also need to step up my lose the back pain exercises again, they sort me out very quickly but I have really let my back care go over the last few months due to family illness which meant I have been under some stress and had little time lately for looking after me and my back. Anyway...through my experiences, I do now believe that part of back pain is physical and part of it is mental or emotional and I am sure now that if I get down or sick or stressed that I get some twinges. Time for a bit of cheering up! Adults ...

Looking After Our Childrens Backs?

Well the kids will be going back to school soon after the holidays and they seem to be needing to carry so much around with them now and doing a lot of sitting at computers and also reading and watching TV if my nieces and nephews are typical. They do physical exercise as well of course but does it really matter about their seated posture? Is it ever too young to start looking after children's backs?   For those of you who have back and sciatic pain now you would not want your child to go through that. I know I would not. I started with back pain from the age of 18 and for many years largely ignored it.  As I got older though it became harder to ignore and then I ended up with major back and sciatic pain & herniated, degenerative discs that was debilitating. Had I known then what I know now I would have tackled it much earlier. Perhaps now would be a good time to check what your child is spending time sitting on at home and at school. Prevention is far better than cure. ...

Happy New Year!

Wishing each and every one of you a Great New Year Ahead! My wish to you is for a New year filled with the fulfilment of wishes you wish for yourself. My wish to you is that this is the year you discover relief from your back and sciatic pain, you find what works for you and apply it consistently. My wish is that you are happy and at peace with yourself, the world and everyone in it. Here are just a few quotes I find to be inspiring to me. "With all its sham ,drudgery and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world." "Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome." "When solving problems, dig at the roots instead of just hacking at the leaves." "Happiness is like a butterfly; the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder..." "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not ...

Cough, cough , cough !!!

Image
Hi all, Sorry I have not been posting lately, I have been feeling quite poorly with flu and a chest infection but am recovering now :) I have some good things to bring you planned including two people I have come to know who I think will inspire you and make our days brighter. I will be posting links to their work on here soon. If you have succumbed to the flu or this chest infection and are coughing a lot like I was then do try to support your back when coughing. If you have back issues a hard cough can really rack your body and hurt your back. I got some bad backache just because of the physical stress on my body when I was cough , cough , cough. Just some support can help and I got my hubby to do some gentle massage on my back to ease the muscles. I was unable to do any exercise for the last month so I am going to ease myself back into it gradually over the next few weeks so as not to strain my back. I am still taking it easy but will try to post more often. Thank you to those of ...

Back Pain Self Referrals.

If you are in UK you may be interested in this news article in the Guardian today. It refers to people with back pain being able to refer themselves to an NHS physio and cutting out Dr referrals. Straight to the specialist. I wonder if it will help to speed up the time it takes to get started on physio treatment? When I first went for physio via a Dr referral I was on a 3 month waiting list. When you are in pain 3 months is a long time. Physio did not help me much unfortunately but I think people should be able to see one quicker than that to see if it can help. Lose The Back Pain System Lose the Back Pain, is a system of self assessments to determine what physical imbalances you may have that may be causing your pain, then specific and targeted exercises to follow to address the imbalances, along with pain reduction strategies.  Follow Jasmine Ann Raintree's board Back And Sciatic Pain Strategies. on Pinterest.

When Is Back Pain , Not Back Pain?

J ust a word to the wise... If you start with back pain and you do not know what is causing it do go check it out with your doctor first. Back pain may be just that; back pain. Pain in your lower, mid or upper back. It may have come on suddenly -you did something and your back "went out" or gradually where you have been getting twinges and achiness for some time. Back pain can just creep up on you. Your back pain may be caused by any number of root causes/conditions including muscle imbalances, a strained back through improper lifting or with weak muscles, herniated or "slipped" disc(which may have its root in muscle imbalances), spinal stenosis, fibromyalgia, arthritis or many other things. Back pain may also be a symptom of kidney problems or cystitis to name a few. Best to rule out those things which do require immediate medical attention and know what you are dealing with. For symptoms you must not ignore and must see a doctor about urgently and ...

Cauda Equina Syndrome

Cauda Equina Syndrome is something that my physio told me to be watchful about when I was first diagnosed with herniated discs and sciatica in both legs from hip to toes. I was really worried about it but it is relatively rare. I did not ever experience cauda equina syndrome but I was glad I knew the symptoms. It is however useful to equip yourself with knowledge about it so if you get any symptoms you take swift action. I was horrified to read on a forum recently that a man had low back pain and was suffering loss of bladder control for over a week and had not yet been to see his doctor about it! If you do experience the symptoms listed please seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional quickly.
