10 Tips For Back Care In The Snow!

Person in snowy garden
To all the people who are experiencing snow and freezing temperatures  right now do be careful of your back!

Snow and Ice can be pretty and can be fun! -but also can be dangerous especially if you already have back issues.

1. If you need to go out do wear layers, hat and gloves and even a heat pack on your back to keep your muscles as warm as possible.

2. Wear a good solid pair of boots with excellent grips. If they do not have grips purchase a pair of pull on grips to give you extra traction. If you have back issues, It is very important you do not slip or fall  as you could injure yourself badly or at best jar your back increasing your pain.

3. Before you go out warm up in the house. Do some of your back pain exercises, walk around the rooms. Anything to get your blood circulating and your body warmed up a bit before you go out.

4. Shovelling snow- If you have back issues Ideally don't do it! Get a friend or neighbour to help you or leave it. If you are unsure if you can do it or not and particularly if you have had surgery or recent or present pain consult your doctor/physio.

5. If you have to move snow and it is medically Ok for you to do so , then be very careful. Use a good shovel , only carry a small amount on it and hold it close to your body. Walk to where you want to deposit the snow - do not throw it.

6. Use your legs not your back! Lower your legs, bend your knees  and do not bend forward with a load on the shovel. Keep your back straight and supported. Only move what snow you have to.

7. When you get in, take a warm bath or shower to warm yourself up again and ease those back muscles. Chances are you have been stiffening up in the cold and may be experiencing more pain unless you warm up again.

8. Do your back pain exercises after your bath or shower then get into clean dry warm clothes.

9. If you need to exercise but cannot get out or cannot safely walk around in snow and ice walk around the home, and do what exercises you can in your home.

10. Eat a healthy diet and make sure you still drink enough liquids each day.

Keep warm and
Gentle Hugs:)

Also Jesse has become very sought after as a back-pain experts due to his natural approach. He's been featured in dozens of newspapers and magazines, such as Miss Fitness, Natural Bodybuilding, and Visage, numerous radio programs, websites and has even appeared as an exclusive back-pain expert on NBC!

  • The REAL reason you "threw your back out” (Hint: In 95% of cases it has NOTHING to do with what happened when it first started hurting!)

  • The 3 hidden, underlying causes of all back pain - If you don't understand and correct these mistakes - it's literally impossible to experience back pain relief without heavy medication!

  •  How to easily and quickly eliminate the problem caused by sitting all day - This “quick-n-easy” fix takes just a few seconds per day… and for many people can relieve back pain nearly instantly!

  •  Revealed: The real reason your doctors do NOT have YOUR best interests at heart (Warning: This "hush-hush" doctors-only secret is something your doctor will not... and can't... ever admit to!)

  • The #1 most overlooked cause of back pain which has NOTHING to do with muscle imbalances, back-blow-outs, diet, or genetics… yet can't be fixed with drugs, doctors-visits or even surgery. How to conquer this little-known back-killer!

  •  How to reduce the #1 dietary cause of back pain - Make a few EASY changes to your diet to reduce this back-pain causing "evil" and you'll not only reduce your back pain… you'll also drastically reduce your chances of developing heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, Alzheimer's… as well as nearly any other degenerative disease you can think of!

  • The 6 types of "professionals" you've most likely dealt with already (or will in the future)… and why… if you're like most people… NONE of them can give you any long-term back pain relief by themselves

  • 6 easy-to-implement lifestyle changes you can make TODAY - Start these the day you read the book and you can begin watching your back pain disappear just a few days later!

  •  Why your irritating "trigger points" are causing much more damage than you think… plus… I'll reveal which of the top 3 solutions for banishing trigger points actually work!

  •  A little-known technique for "fighting gravity" - This 2,000 year old technique developed by Hippocrates is a time-tested and PROVEN solution for fighting and even eliminating back pain… in both the short-term AND long-term! Plus… 7 "add-on" extra benefits you'll experience with this technique

  •  “7-Day Action Plans” you can take to free yourself from the torment of lower back pain, upper back and neck pain, herniated discs, sciatica, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, sacroiliac joint dysfunction… as well as many others!

Never Give Up!

Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome.

Worthwhile bearing in mind when thinking of what may help with our back issues.

Its easy to become disheartened and disillusioned if we have tried so many treatments and they do not work or do not work for long ( I was there believe me!) but it is so important that we keep looking for our solution.

Sometimes a gem may be missed because we cannot be sure or gave up a bit too soon.

5 Ways To Make Sitting Easier On Your Back

Your back is for life and it is always good to look after it best way you can.

One element that is vital is to learn how to have and maintain great posture.

Many of us have imbalances and poor posture that over time can cause us minor to serious issues and pain.

Here are just 5 simple ways you can help to improve your posture when sitting.

1.Keep your heels, back and neck in alignment and you r legs at a 90% angle to your body. If necessary use a foot support to raise your legs so this can be achieved.

2. Do not sit for long periods of time. If you can get up, move about, stretch  every 30 -60 minutes. If you are at home this should be easier to do . If in an office or work environment then a short walk to the water cooler or to make a drink or to the shredder /photocopier etc will do without it being too obvious.

3. A good back support that suits you can be a great asset. I have used one called Contour Products Freedom Back Chair Cushion  since I got back pain and it is very, very helpful. It also makes chairs that are not really good for backs  much more comfortable. As I have to visit different places in my job and sometimes have long meetings, this is extremely important to me.

4.Another tool you can utilise is an exercise ball. I have one I sometimes use at home and I like it. I find it helps me sit in a better position as I am prone to slouch or get into bad posture after a while at the computer.

5. If you are a computer user do ensure that it is placed at the correct height and position for you. You should be able to see  the screen comfortably at your normal eyeline and your hands and lower arms should be comfortable in a straight line at the keyboard. if this is not the case please change or get it altered.

So just a few things you can bear in mind to help you help yourself.

The Ark Animal Rescue And Retirement Home

This post is not about back pain yet I hope it is a post to touch your heart, especially if you love animals. A little while ago I visited The Ark in Lincolnshire and found a place full of love and caring seldom found.

The Ark Animal Rescue And Retirement Home

The Ark care for animals, mainly cats and dogs but also small furries like rabbits who have lost their home. Some have been bereaved, some are found abandoned, others are victims of their owners financial difficulties. Some come from loving homes and are parted with, with heavy hearts, others are found wandering lost and lonely.

Some have a short stay at The Ark, and find another loving home to go to. For others it becomes their retirement home as some cannot be rehomed. They never put an animal down unless on veterinary advice.

The Ark was established in 1981, by Mrs Pauline Rice. Over the past 27 years, Pauline, and a dedicated group of helpers, has changed the lives of so many animals for the better.

At The Ark it is clear as soon as you walk around for a while that this is  a safe, protective, caring enviroment for the animals. Even, or rather especially the very old and the sick are loved and cared for.

The Ark is funded by donations and fundraising by a caring team of helpers who do everything they can, The attitude there is that the more money they can raise the more animals they can save, give necessary medical attention to and a better quality of life. Money is spent on food, veterinary care, housing and, when necessary, heating for the old and poorly.

It is the sort of place that stays with you long after your visit. The sort of place that drifts into your heart and that you want to tell people about. It is a place taking heartbreaking situations and turning them into a place of inspiration, love and hope.

Please visit their site and find out more about the work they do and if you are in a position to help, even a little, I know they appreciate it deeply.

Thank you for reading this, it means a lot to me.

Happy 2010! Back Care In The Snow!

Snowy shrub
Hi everyone! I do hope you had a lovely time over the holidays.

Well we are now inundated with  heavy snow and ice! Where I live we are not used to prolonged periods of snow,; yes we get some snow every winter but it doesnt usually last very long. However, this looks set in for a while.

It is important if you have back issues to take extra care in snowy and slipperly icy weather. You really do not want to slip and jar your back or worse still fall. Also important not to strain your back either. So a few quick tips if you are coping with the snow and ice!

1. Walk carefully on snow and ice, wear shoes or boots with very good grips or invest in good quality shoe grippers designed for ice. I just got a pair and they are brilliant!

2. Ideally do not dig out the pavement or drive. If the snow is not too deep or just icy you can scatter salt or get someone else to do the digging out .

3.Keep your back warm. If your muscles tense up with the cold you may find you get more pain. Try a heat pad. Wear layers.

4.See if you can get your shopping delivered. Many stores do this service, depending on where you live. I find it invaluable as no need to drive or walk through snow and ice just to get food supplies.

So just a few tips. If you have anymore please let us know. If you liked this post do consider joining our Facebook Page Sciatica Solutions.
