Tips On How To Lose The Neck Pain.

How To Lose The Neck Pain. This discusses ways to manage and ease neck pain. Do you have a stiff, aching or painful neck and shoulders, neck and/or back pain?

If you have neck pain you will know how it can be very debilitating. Neck pain can range from a mild niggle from a little tension or having slept awkwardly, to a serious continuous neck pain that can have a major impact on your life. Often it is invisible to other people and therefore people just do not know or understand what pain you can be going through.

If you have back issues you may well find that you also gain neck pain as your whole body tries to compensate and becomes thrown out of balance.

"I think about the meaning of pain. Pain is personal. It really belongs to the one feeling it. Probably the only thing that is your own."Henry Rollins

Here I will share a few tips that you can easily put into practice especially regarding your diet. I have also found some really great neck support pillows which may be useful for you every day or especially for when traveling. How To Get Neck Pain Relief.

One thing you will know if you have neck pain is that it is hard if not impossible to ignore it !!

So what are your options if you have neck pain? Well if you have neck pain you have probably already tried Painkillers, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Massage and they may not have worked for you or only worked temporarily.

I know through first hand experience  how hard it is to try lots of treatments for pain and the frustration and sadness when they do not work or only work for a short time.

Pain killers can indeed in some cases kill the pain - but- what effect are they having on your body, and can you take them long term or will their effect lessen.

Just reading about your neck pain may not be enough, you can learn and you can even try those free exercises that are possible to find. However be careful as they wont be specific to you and who has devised them?

A chiropractor or similar may be useful to you, but they can only fix the temporary misalignment in your spine. In addition the cost of going back for repeated treatments can be extremely expensive! I know as I went to a chiropractor for several months and although he did help me it became very expensive and burnt a hole in my pocket!!

Also what about the effect of muscle imbalances? Do they matter?

There is now an alternative from the people who brought you Lose The Back Pain System which I trusted my back to and it worked ! To ease or sort out your neck pain there is a neck pain relief system you can buy and use in the comfort of home. There is a physical version and an online version to choose from. The online version is the most affordable, however it works best if you have a high speed internet connection.

Love Home Memory Foam 3d Ventilative Mesh Lumbar Support Back Cushion

I felt that this Love Home Memory Foam 3d Ventilative Mesh Lumbar Support Back Cushion was well worth sharing with you. This lumbar seat cushion is a bestseller at Amazon and with good reason.

Its design reduces stress on your back and thus helps to ease low back pain. It measures 13.4 inches by 12.6 inches by 4 inches. It comes in a black colour or if you prefer a brighter colour it also comes in camel, coffee, grey, rose red(more pink tones) and blue. It is supportive so firm but soft.

As it has memory foam there may be a slight smell as with most memory foam products at first but this should go off quite quickly. However for me the benefits of memory foam being soft yet supportive and excellent for my back issues, out weight his very slight initial issue.

If you use it vertically as a back support it goes in height from the base of your spine up to the low mid point of the back.

You can also use it to sit on as a base to any seat. This can be very useful to raise the height of a seat such as a car seat or to achieve a better height and posture when sitting at a desk.

Thus it helps the lower and sacral regions of the back.

It has a 3D mesh cover which helps to keep you cool and has a zipper & elasticized belt to keep secure. It does have a strap extender as well in case you are using a wider chair or in a car seat and need to have it extended.

This comfortable lumbar support has many uses in most chairs, car seats, scooters and wheelchairs to make sitting more comfortable on you and your back. It promotes good posture when sitting as well which is something that many of us lack.

You can check out customer reviews if you click through the link to Amazon here.

Love Home Memory Foam 3d Ventilative Mesh Lumbar Support Cushion/ Back Cushion / Support Cushion Helps the Lumbar and Sacral Region of the Spinal Column & Helps Promote Good Posture While Sitting- Excellent for Home, Office, Car and Wheelchairs- Size: 13.4''*12.6''*4'' (Black)

So this is a versatile, comfortable and adaptable lumbar seat cushion that can be used in many situations from the office, your home, in a car or using a scooter or wheelchair to make your day a little easier.

How To Make The Most Of Back and Neck Pain Support Forums

How To Make The Most Of Back and Neck Pain Support Forums

If you have back, neck or sciatic pain you may want to go onto a back pain support forum for help and advice. There are things you need to bear in mind while using a back pain support forum or a neck pain support forum that can make your time there more useful and more enjoyable.

I have quite a lot of experience on back and neck support forums, having used a lot of them while I was trying to search for my back pain solution.

They can be one of the best sources of support you can get but you do need to follow a few guidelines to get the most out of them and just as importantly, to give the most to them.

Support , Advice And Friendship On Back Pain Support Forums

Back pain and neck pain support forums can be a wonderful source of support and even friendship with other neck, back and sciatic pain sufferers.

At a time when you may feel that no one understands you know that the people there really do as they are going through it too.

I have met some wonderful, highly informed people on back and neck pain forums who have helped me so very much. Some have become good friends. I have learned about treatments and techniques and advice that I never knew existed.

Going on to a back pain forum for me meant I had a release for all my worries, concerns and feelings about back pain. At that time I did not know anyone else who had severe back and scaitic pain like me. As well as talking with loved ones who may be understanding and empathetic, but may have no experience of backpain; you can release some of that angst, fear and worry you may be experiencing with people who are also living it. I think its healthy and good to talk about it.

“Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness...be gentle with yourself"
    Desiderata

Introduce Yourself On A Back Or Neck Pain Forum.

If you are seeking advice about your neck or back condition or what you are experiencing, it is helpful to introduce yourself on the forum so people can relate to you.

Give a brief account of your condition and what symptoms and treatments you have had already. It doesnt need to be an essay - in fact its better if it isn't too long - it just helps to give people an idea of what you are going through and what you need.

Do remember that you are writing to fellow back and neck pain sufferers, some of whom may have trouble sitting for long (that was a major issue for me) so keep it clear and not too much block text. Short paragraphs are best for ease of reading.

Focus on what you CAN DO with your back condition. Dont beat yourself up over the rest.

Learning From A Back Or Neck Pain Forum

In my experience you can learn a lot from a back or neck pain support forum. You may well be introduced to ideas and treatments you had never heard of or your doctor was simply too busy to go into detail with you about.

You can ask what its like in others experiences to have an MRI, to have certain procedures or what different treatments there are and what they are like. You can gain a range of perspectives from people who have experienced the things you are interested in learning about.

Back and neck pain support forums can help you to get ideas about the physical treatments available.
If asked people may share with you their own personal experiences of treatments you may yet not have even heard about.

“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." Helen Keller

From my emotional perspective, it did me the world of good to participate in a back pain forum and then to get the kind and empathetic reactions from people and a few who gave me the kick I needed to get searching for my solution!!!

It was great to know that I was not alone in my struggle and that people understood the lack of sleep, the pain, the irritability and the hidden emotions about back pain.

It also felt GREAT that my experiences could help other people! I do believe that giving help and support was a major factor in my recovery .

I really wanted / needed to give back so I could help others through my experiences.

Do Not Give Out Too Much Personal Information
Just a little word of warning. You may be cautioned on many forums not to give out your email address, tel no and home address, yet I still see people doing this.

Remember when you are talking on the neck and back pain support forums you are talking to a wider audience than just the people you know on that forum. Many are open access and anyone can read those. Its easy to be lulled into a false sense of security when you are typing away on your own computer in your own home.

For the same reasons you may want to use a "handle" not your real name.

Do not go into too much detail about your finances, or home circumstances especially if you live alone and are very vulnerable.

Most people are great-but you just need to be a little careful.

“It is impossible to feel grateful and depressed in the same moment."
    Naomi Williams

Be Wise How You Use Forums

Say Thankyou And Try To Help Others On A Back Or Neck Pain Forum

If you get a response to your query for advice on your neck and back pain, do acknowledge it. Even if its not the answer you wanted do remember that the people on these forums are often not experts in back and sciatic pain, they are fellow back pain sufferers and are just trying to help out. Its nice to be thanked for their help.

Monitor your own thread so that you can say thank you and say what you have found useful. You will find people will want to help you more if you show your appreciation :)

Do try to answer a couple of queries yourself, even if you do not know a lot you can express your empathy, ask them how they are now, offer the hand of forum friendship. Be yourself, be warm and friendly and open.

Introduce yourself and tell others about what worked for you and what did not, your successes and your failures, how you feel and how you cope.

    Freedom Back Support In Chair

I own this Contour Freedom Back Massage cushion from Amazon and find it very useful for firm support and better posture for my back when sitting. I love the massage option.

Never Flame Or Harrass Another Back Pain Forum Member

I know you would never do that!

Be Courteous to other posters, everyone is just looking for help and advice and maybe a place to vent frustrations and upsets.

However sometimes tempers can flare on forums, especially when people are in pain and hurting and they can get angry at you even when its not your fault. Best to bow out gracefully, keep away from the thread for a while. Let tempers calm down.

Do not give way to profanity, this may well get you banned. If you feel the need to swear best step away from the computer and cool off for a bit !

If you are being harrassed do report it to the Forum Administrator if the forum is moderated.

Many Forums do not allow any advertising of products or links. If you really want to recommend something do be careful and read the forum rules before you leave any product or commercial links.

Usually leaving helpful information about medications, helpful web-sites, medical & surgical procedures is permitted but do check the forum rules.

“What a man needs in gardening is a cast-iron back, with a hinge in it."Charles Dudley Warner.

Should You Take Advice On A Back Pain Or Neck Pain Forum?

When you are posting questions to a back or neck pain support forum you can be general and get a good range of answers. Specifics can come later in the thread as people ask you more. If you are wanting a range of answers from differnet people try this approach

Has anyone tried this treatment(name of treatment)

Has anyone been for a (name of procedure) what was it like?

You may well receive medical advice if you ask for advice on back forums. People will give advice with the very best of intentions. Some of it will be excellent advice, some of it may not be correct for you.

Do not expect to go on a forum with a question about what you should do with sciatica and get a response that is a diagnosis and treatment plan for you.

    Bookcase with books

It is always wise to double check any medical advice you receive on forums with a qualified medical practitioner/therapist.

Never rely solely on the information and/or opinions on a back pain support forum.

What works for one person with one condition may not work for another. Different people can feel or react to the same condition very differently. Your treatment may also depend on any other conditions you have and other personal details.

People on back and neck forums cannot see you, check you body symptoms or do any tests for you. Do get a medical check as well.

“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness."
    Seneca

     Back And Spine Surgery

If you are considering spinal surgery or have had back surgery suggested to you, it is vital that you are fully informed about All the options- surgical and non surgical and the risks and benefits to you. This post covers some of these considerations in back surgery.

To undergo spine surgery is a serious decision and is not to be undertaken lightly, you need to be certain it is the correct choice for you. There are many different surgeries that may be considered for you.

It is important that you know the reasons and the differences. Just some of them are Discectomy, Foraminotomy, IntraDiscal Electrothermal Therapy (IDET), Spinal Fusion and Spinal Laminectomy.

Unless there are circumstances which make spine surgery urgent and essential it is always worthwhile talking through the pros and cons of having the surgery with your healthcare providers and surgeon and if possible considering trying less invasive alternatives first.

Do You Really Need Spine Surgery? - Dr Aaron Filler -Neurosurgeon

A Neuro Surgeon's Guide to Back and Neck Pain and how to choose your treatment. Dr Aaron Filler gives useful information to help you understand and be an active participant in the care of your back and spine.

Questions To Ask Your Surgeon About Spine Surgery

These are some questions I asked when I was referred to a neurosurgeon to consider having surgery. There may well be many more you can think of but just a starting point.

I dont know about you but my mind goes blank when i am in a surgeons office so i found it best to write down all my questions first then I can just read them.

My neurosurgeon said he liked it when people came in prepared as he then knew that concerns were addressed.

Questions you may like to ask your surgeon about your back issues and surgery

There are several questions you can ask a spine surgeon to help you more thoroughly understand your prospective surgery and instil confidence in your selection of a surgeon.

    • What is the exact diagnosis?
    • What assessments will you do and what will the assessments tell you about my condition?
    • Is it essential/urgent I have back surgery now? If yes why?
    • If it is not urgent/essential I have surgery now can I try other treatments first then come back?
    • What is the specific back pain surgery you are proposing? How will this help me?
    • What is the prognosis for my back if I do not have surgery?
    • Do I need any other tests for my spine/back or general health ? If so which ones? What will they tell you?
    • Is there a waiting list for back surgery? If so how long?
    • What happens if the back surgery doesnt work?
    • Could I be worse off/more backpain or sciatica after the surgery?
    • What are the risks to my spine or my general health?
    • How long will I be in recovery after the back surgery?
    • Will I need to do any maintenance or back exercises after the surgery? If so what?
    • How many appointments will I need? How frequently?
    • What exactly will this treatment do for me?
    • Will it cost me anything?
    • How often do you /this hospital perform this back surgery?
The bottom line is to be as informed as possible before you make a decision.

@sierradawn lm: Thank you. Do ask all the questions you need of the specialists etc and so you understand all the risks/benefits.

Very comprehensive info on back surgery! Back surgery is one way to treat back pain but this method should really only be considered as the last resort right?

      anonymous
Surgery has a very limited role in the treatment of back pain. Although it is probably offered to patients more often than is necessary (this is, after all, how surgeons make their living), there are a few good reasons to have surgery. A small number of surgeons think the only way to cure a medical condition is with cold, hard steel. There are also some surgeons whose only interest in the patient is in the fee they collect; they collect more for doing surgery than for talking patients out of surgery. Honest, ethical surgeons give the patient options and honest opinions. The problem may be in figuring out who is being honest and who isn't.
Most insurance companies, especially workers compensation companies, would prefer not to pay for surgery, or long term rehabilitation instead of, or following, surgery. The less they pay out for procedures or physical therapy, the more profit they make. Stock holders like that; patients don't. And if insurance companies can find a way to no longer be the financially responsible party, all the better.
Keeping the above two paragraphs in mind, some times surgery is a necessity. Statistically, necessary surgery probably falls in the range of 5% of cases. In another 5% of cases surgery may be appropriate because it saves the patient healing time and time off work, even if it does not affect the eventual overall outcome. This means that in 90+% of back pain cases, surgery is not needed! All surgery has the potential for complications, from pain to numbness to paralysis to death. Think hard about your choices.
In general, a patient needs surgery when surgery can save his life, repair an injury the patientâs body cannot, or shorten significantly the recovery from an injury or disease. When it comes to the lower back, there are five absolute indications for surgery, but several elective reasons. The absolute indications for surgery are the following:
      1. Cauda equina or conus medullaris syndrome. These situations happen when there is a very large central herniated disc that compresses severely the nerves in the lower spinal cord. Without surgery, the compression would lead to eventual loss of function of those nerves, paralysis of muscles, and/or loss of sensation.
      2. Intractable pain, i.e. unremitting, severe pain.
      3. Progressive neurological deficit, loss of sensation, proprioception, muscle control, etc.
      4. New incontinence or retention, bowel or bladder.
      5. Hemorrhage into the spinal cord.
The relative indications generally center on the relief of discomfort (less than intractable) and the shortening of recovery time from various problems: herniated disk, compression fractures, etc.
There are also several types of surgery: open, micro, and minimally invasive. Open takes less time, usually. The surgeon has a better view of the surgical field, but more structures are damaged and recovery is longer. Micro surgery takes longer; the field of view is smaller, but fewer structures are damaged and recovery is shorter. Minimally invasive surgery, in general, takes the longest; is the most difficult; has the narrowest field of view, but the shortest recovery time. There are trade-offs. Get the surgeon to explain them all to you. If he can't or won't, find another surgeon.
If someone uses the words, laser surgery, he is trying to impress you. Nothing more. Lasers have their place in surgery -- usually cauterizing blood vessels. Very little surgery is done with a laser. A laser produces too much heat. Laser is a buzz word only. And the person using it is a salesman first -- surgeon second. He wants your money; he's not concerned with your best interests.

This is fantastic information you have here.
If someone is facing surgery, this is absolutely the best thing - to ensure that they are as prepared as they can be for it.
I really like particularly that you get them to question the surgery - are there other ways that I can try before I have the surgery. I know that surgery is a trying thing to go through with many possible problems later in life, so it's great to be fully aware of the situation before embarking.
      Keep up the great work!

I had a slipped disc in 1988 and still get back pain as a result, but fortunately these days it's something I have learned to deal with. Usually tasks like gardening or mowing the lawn will set my back off, but a dose of Ibuprofen before I start usually relaxes the muscles enough so that I don't end up in terrible pain.

I have had 3 back surgeries in the last 5 years, all L5/S1. Two laminectomys and the final one which was a full discectomy with fusion. All though I am immobile, I still have daily pain and use natural as well as prescription medicine to get through each day. Good lens.

Very informative lens. My husband had back surgery about 8 yrs ago, prolapsed disc. He couldn't even walk, it was so bad. He recovered well and doesn't have many problems, only if he over does it on the shovel. Having back pain can tear your life apart. Nice lens.

Very informative lens, I had back surgery a few years ago. Actually I had a micro-diskectomy first, that didn't work and then had a fusion. Back pain can change your entire outlook on life and I am so thankful to have had the surgery work! I wish the best and plenty of pain free days to any of you that are suffering with this.
      Happy Holidays!

What Is Your Experience of Spinal Surgery?

I know people who would not touch back surgery with a barge pole and I also know people who have had a very successful spinal surgery. My uncle had a very difficult and long recovery from back surgery yet a friend of mine had a wonderful and very successful recovery.

Each of us is different and there are many mitigating factors. I would appreciate you leaving any comments as to your experiences of spine surgery-positive or negative or somewhere in between- or hints and tips to help others, you are welcome to post here.

      For example
I have had back surgery and it was a success
I have had back surgery and it was not a success
      I am considering back surgery
I have not had back surgery
I will never agree to back surgery
For me it will be an option ONLY if all other treatments do not work

      Thank you For Your Visit

Love to hear your comments and if you have any experience of spine surgery-positive or negative or somewhere in between- or hints and tips to help others, you are welcome to post here.
I read every comment and appreciate you taking the time.
