An Open Letter To Those Without Invisible Disability Or Chronic Illness

Hi there,

At last I found this wonderful letter to share with you;

"An Open Letter To Those Without Invisible Disability Or Chronic Illness "

I had found it some time ago and then lost it again. Now I have it on my stumbleupon faves and linked here so I won't lose it again!

It is all about understanding people who have an illness or disability that is not necessarily obvious. I think that back and sciatic pain can come under that banner heading. I know from my own experience while some people were understanding of my sciatic and back pain and the effects it had on me-physically and emotionally; others were very dismissive of "back pain" as being anything much to be concerned about...wish I could have given those people this letter...

From the page

Having an invisible disability (ID) and/or invisible chronic illness (ICI) means that many things change. Just because you can’t see the changes doesn’t mean they aren’t real.

Most people don’t understand much about these disabilities/diseases and their effects, and of those that think they know, many are actually mis-informed. In the spirit of informing those who wish to understand …

… These are the things that I would like you to understand about me before you judge me…
